ÉTAUDORÉ Wood Care
How to care for oiled wooden furniture and how to maintain it
After applying hardwax oil, the surface reaches its full hardness only after approximately 4 weeks. During this time, the furniture should be kept away from water, cleaning agents, and other liquids. Use with care is recommended during this initial period. After one month, you may begin the first care treatments.
For regular dusting and light cleaning, we recommend using a soft, slightly damp cotton cloth with a small amount of cleaner specifically made for oiled wood (e.g. Osmo Spray Cleaner 8026 or Osmo Wax Cleaner and Care 3029). Avoid vigorous rubbing, as this can cause discoloration or lighten the surface in the affected area. Always wipe along the wood grain. To maintain the aesthetic appearance of your furniture, clean only when truly necessary — this will keep it looking its best for longer.
Maintenance of oiled wood surfaces should be repeated periodically.
If you notice dull spots, a loss of shine or smoothness, or that liquids are being absorbed rather than beading on the surface, it’s time to reapply a fresh layer of hardwax oil. Neglecting to do so can lead to permanent stains from colored substances or water marks! Maintenance should be done once a year or more often if needed.
Instructions for applying Osmo 3058 Clear Hardwax Oil:
1. Remove all dirt with a damp cloth or the recommended cleaner.
2. Lightly sand the surface with P240 grit sandpaper. Always sand along the grain — sanding across the grain can cause scratches.
3. Wipe the surface with a damp cloth to remove sanding dust.
4. Using a cotton cloth, apply a thin, even layer of hardwax oil over the entire surface.
5. After about 30 minutes, gently wipe away any excess oil with the same cloth.
6. Let it dry for 24 hours. Ensure the room is well-ventilated.
7. Repeat steps 2–6 two or three times for the best result.
8. Once the final layer has dried, polish the surface along the wood grain.
