The Story Behind the Cloud Lamps

The Story Behind the Cloud Lamps

How a meeting at a Polish design fair grew into a long-term collaboration, bringing handcrafted Cloud lamps from an artisan studio in Palowice to homes across Switzerland.

Some pieces (and people) stay with you from the moment you first see them.

We first came across United Wood Items and their Cloud lamps at Targi Rzeczy Ładnych in Wrocław in 2023. Among the many objects presented at the fair, the lamps immediately caught our attention.

Their form felt sculptural and organic. Curved strips of wood seemed to flow around one another, creating a shape that changed depending on the viewing angle. Once illuminated, the same structure created a warm glow and beautiful patterns of light and shadow.

We exchanged details with the head of the artisan studio, Maciej Glinski, and stayed in touch. Their use of natural materials, beautiful design and careful craftsmanship felt closely aligned with the ÉTAUDORÉ collection.

Two years later, in 2025, we introduced the Cloud Floor Lamp and Cloud Ceiling Lamp to our offer.

How the Cloud lamps are made

Every Cloud lamp begins with raw ash wood.

Each piece is made to order in the United Wood Items artisan studio in Palowice, Poland. Production starts once an individual order has been placed.

The wood is selected, cut and prepared in the workshop. The individual elements are then carefully shaped and refined until they begin to take on the curved form that defines the Cloud collection.

The production combines woodworking machinery with detailed manual work. Many stages are completed by hand, from shaping individual components to assembling the final structure.

Is it a lamp or a sculpture?

One of the qualities we love about the Cloud lamps is how beautifully they contribute to an interior throughout the entire day.

When switched off, the curved ash wood structure has a strong sculptural presence, with its flowing form and natural grain becoming part of the room.

Once illuminated, light passes between the wooden elements, creating a soft ambient glow and distinctive patterns across nearby walls and ceilings.
